Biography:

Thomas Hyphantis is a General Adult Psychiatrist, Professor of Psychiatry and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Medical School, University of Ioannina, Greece. He served as Director of the Social Medicine and Mental Health Sector (2012-2015) and as Special Adviser to the Minister of Health in issues relevant to Mental Health (March 2015 – March 2017). He is trained in family systems therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy and contributed to the development of Community Psychiatry and Liaison Psychiatry in Greece. His research focuses on psychosomatic medicine and he has published more than 130 papers in international peer-reviewed journals. He is President of the Consultation-Liaison Sector of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association and Member of the European Association of Psychosomatic Medicine (EAPM). He coordinated/participated in EU/national projects as principal investigator and he is an Advisory Board Member of the Journal of Psychosomatic Research.
